I grew up in the center of Rome, Italy. Both of my parents were photographers, and you could say I was marked for photography early on—my first scar came from falling onto camera equipment. I started studying photography in high school, and around the same time, I developed a deep interest in art history. Being surrounded by Rome’s history and art shaped the way I learned to see and understand the world. With the city as my everyday backdrop, I was lucky to experience many of the Renaissance and Baroque works I first encountered in textbooks. Those early encounters taught me to value craft, patience, and close attention to detail.
Moving to London to study at Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design was a turning point. Immersed in a contemporary art environment, I was challenged to rethink many of my assumptions about what art is and how it can function. That shift in perspective expanded my thinking and continues to influence my work today. I later completed my graduate studies in photography and art history at the Savannah College of Art and Design.
My work has been exhibited in Italy, the UK, and the United States. Alongside my studio practice, teaching has become an important part of my life. I have taught at South Carolina State University and Claflin University, and I currently teach at the University of South Carolina.
I’ve also worked as a curator at the FAB Gallery in Orangeburg and at the McKissick Museum in Columbia—experiences that deepened my understanding of how artwork lives in exhibition spaces and how audiences engage with it. I currently manage the McMaster Gallery in the School of Visual Arts and Design at USC.
