The “Map” series is a short experiment triggered by a strange artifact. It is a found object that never ceases to puzzle me. We are looking at a notepad cut out in the shape of the continental United States. The paper is not blank but is made up of parts of a map. The characters on the map are a mixture of English and Korean. Adding to the object's complexity is the fact that the maps show parts of both North and South Korea.

For an object without a known history, it becomes intertwined with a lot of history from the second half of the 20^th century. It creates an unresolved tension between signifier and signified if we stay within the field of art critique, but it also speaks somewhat bluntly of current affairs.
